The Athens International Marathon - 1986

Jack Fitzgerald's article written for Vets News - in .pdf format.

Alain Mimoun ran the first 3km section wtih me, up to the memorial loop - his 'session' for the day.
Emil Zatopek actually was the race 'Starter' and encouraged us from a minibus!
They then drove on to the Panathenaic Stadium to monitor the finish and presentations.

The race times reflect both the nature of the course - climbing 200m ( 650ft ) between 18 & 32km
- and the warm weather conditions - a sunny 25oC by mid-day.

A couple of weeks later I was just over 10 mins quicker in London.                 Κιτ Γούγτκοκ (Αγγλία)
